College announces lineup for fall Ruel Joyce Recital Series
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College has unveiled the lineup for the upcoming fall season of the Ruel Joyce Recital Series. The series, which is free and open to the public, features the talents of some of Kansas City’s finest classical musicians. Recitals are scheduled at noon Monday for nine consecutive weeks, Sept. 10 to Nov. 5. All performances take place in the Recital Hall of the Carlsen Center unless otherwise noted.
Here's the lineup:
- Sept. 10 - John Svoboda, guitar
- Sept. 17 - Katie Baeth, Gina Hart-Kemper, Emily Smith, flute trio
- Sept. 24 - Rebecca Bell, harpsichord
- Oct. 1 - Marita Abner, bassoon
- Oct. 8 - David Sullivan, horn; Elizabeth Schellhase, horn
- Oct. 15 - Lawrence Figg, cello; Avguste Antonov, piano
- Oct. 22 - John Villaveces, piano
- Oct. 29 - Patrick Howle, baritone; Rena Berger Natenberg, piano
- Nov. 5 - Chung-Hoon Peter Chun, viola; Jiwon Choi, piano
The series, named for Ruel Joyce, a longtime jazz bassist who headed the local musician’s federation from 1977 until his death in 1989, is sponsored by the JCCC Music and Theatre department and JCCC Community Services. Seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
