Law enforcement careers ready for a close up at JCCC Criminal Justice Day

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Students and the community can get a close-up look at the equipment used in law enforcement during Criminal Justice Day, set for 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Sept. 19, at Johnson County Community College.

The event will include computerized patrol cars, motorcycles, bomb disposal units and armored personnel carriers, as well as K-9 demonstrations. Booths and equipment will be set up outdoors on the Commons Plaza at the college, 12345 College Boulevard, Overland Park.

Several police departments as well as correctional facilities are expected to have representatives on campus, as well.

This is the ninth year the college’s administration of justice program has sponsored Criminal Justice Day, which is free and open to the public. It’s designed to give students and the public a close-up look at careers in criminal justice as well as the equipment that’s used in the field.

JCCC’s administration of justice program offers an associate’s degree that can lead to employment in law enforcement, corrections and investigations as well as prepare students to earn a bachelor's degree in this field.

Job titles in the administration of justice field include background investigator, border patrol agent, chief of police, corrections officer, crime lab technician, deputy marshal, deputy sheriff, detective, forensic scientist, highway patrol officer, juvenile officer, park ranger, security guard, special weapons and tactics officer, warden and many others.
