JCCC throttles Missouri Valley JV
OVERLAND PARK, KS – This game was over shortly after it started. The Johnson County Community College women’s basketball team, ranked No. 1 in NJCAA D-II, scored 31 unanswered points to start the game, and cruised to a 102-31 victory over Missouri Valley JV, Monday night at JCCC Gymnasium. Amazingly, the 71-point margin of victory was not a record in the series. The Lady Cavaliers downed the Vikings by 112 points (145-33) on Nov. 18, 1991.
Six players finished in double figures scoring for Johnson County. Sophomore forward Kathleen Brisbane led the way with 16 points, hitting eight of her nine field goal attempts. Sophomore DaShawn Harden, a transfer from Oklahoma, and freshman Camille Gee each poured in 15 points. Freshman forward Kariel Hutt followed with 14 points and six rebounds, and freshman guards Timeka O’Neal and Sameia Kendall contributed 12 and 11 points respectively. O’Neal also had nine assists and five steals. Freshman Juanita Robinson matched O’Neal’s nine-assist effort, and led JCCC with eight rebounds.
Johnson County (6-0) will look to stay perfect on the season when they travel to Hesston College Nov. 28. The Lady Larks are 6-4 on the season, but lead the Region VI D-II standings with a 2-0 record.
