JCCC third in NATYCAA Cup standings
OVERLAND PARK, KS – The National Alliance of Two Year Athletic Administrators sponsors the NATYCAA Cup, which is awarded each year in recognition of overall athletic performance at two-year institutions. The final standings for the 2011-12 cup were announced at the NATYCAA annual convention in June, and Johnson County Community College finished third overall out of 192 colleges.
The NATYCAA Cup program began in 2003-04 to highlight excellence in two-year athletics based on success in championship competition. Points are accumulated throughout the year based on performance at national championship events. A first place finish warrants 20 points, second place 19 points, etc. JCCC finished with 117 points. The Lady Cavaliers compiled 60.5 points last year in championship events, and men tallied 56.5.
The JCCC women’s outdoor track and field team and the men’s cross country team each scored 16 points by finishing fifth in their respective national championships. Other top 10 national finishers turned in by JCCC teams were the women’s indoor track team, women’s and men’s basketball teams, men’s tennis team and the volleyball team.
Iowa Central Community College captured its fourth straight NATYCAA Cup title finishing with 157 total points. Tyler Junior College was second with 128. JCCC has finished in the top 10 all nine years of the cup award, and among the top three five times, including a cup championship in 2007-08.
