M. Basketball Jones nabs NJCAA D-II POW

Tony JonesOVERLAND PARK, KS – Johnson County Community College forward Tony Jones had an outstanding effort for the Cavaliers last week, and was rewarded with his selection as the NJCAA Division II National Player of the Week. 

Jones helped snap Johnson County’s five-game losing streak with a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds in a 60-48 road victory over Wentworth Military. The sophomore from Raymore, Mo., recorded a second double-double in a 70-45 loss to Highland, with 19 points and 18 rebounds. Both totals established new career highs, and his 18 boards tied the fifth-best game in team history. 

On Tuesday night, Jones made it three straight double-doubles, finishing with 19 points and 15 rebounds to lead JCCC to a 69-54 conference win over Fort Scott. 

Through 12 games this season, Jones ranks second on the team in scoring with a 12.7 per game average. He's the Cavaliers top rebounder with a 9.5 per game average, and he leads the team with 20 blocked shots.
