W. Soccer – Bouknight inks with Emporia State
OVERLAND PARK, KS – Johnson County Community College sophomore forward Thomasenia Bouknight has signed a Letter of Intent with Emporia State University, and will play for new head women’s soccer coach Bryan Sailer and the Hornets for the 2012 season. Bouknight was one of six players Sailer announced who signed with ESU.
Bouknight, formerly of Olathe North High School, leaves JCCC ranked eighth in career points with 85, tied for ninth in career goals with 30, eighth in career assists with 25 and tied the record for career game-winning assists with nine. She helped the Lady Cavaliers post a 29-8-3 record over her two seasons under head coach Jim Schwab.
“Tommi is a wing type forward with amazing speed,” coach Sailer said in a release issued by the ESU Sports Information Office. “She is super athletic and will be a constant threat to our opponents.”
As a sophomore, Bouknight earned All-Kansas Jayhawk Conference and NJCAA Region VI first-team honors at forward. She led the Lady Cavaliers in points (50), goals (19) and assists (12). Her 50 points rank 11th on JCCC’s season chart, and her 19 goals tie for 15th. In mid-September, Bouknight was named both the NJCAA and KJCCC Verizon Wireless Player of the Week after leading JCCC to three wins Sept. 12-18. In one of those wins she connected on all five of her shots en route to an 8-0 win over Barton. Her five-goal effort ties the fourth-best game in JCCC history.
Bouknight capped her freshman year by earning all-conference and all-region second-team honors as a midfielder. She started all 19 matches and finished second on the team in goals (11), assists (13) and points (35). She also was credited with seven game-winning assists, which led the team.
As a prep athlete, Bouknight made an impact in three sports at Olathe North, lettering in soccer, basketball and track and field. In soccer, she was twice named All Sunflower League. She also earned all-conference in basketball her senior year.
