Frampton brings worldwide tour to JCCC
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Peter Frampton, one of the most celebrated guitarists in rock history, will perform at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, at Johnson County Community College.
The 61-year-old will celebrate the 35th anniversary of his multi-platinum-selling album called Frampton Comes Alive by performing it in its entirety in Yardley Hall of the Carlsen Center.
The three-hour show, part of a worldwide tour, also will feature highlights from
Frampton’s catalog. They will include offerings from his 2007 Grammy Award-winning instrumental album Fingerprints.
Frampton is best known for such hits as Show Me the Way, Baby, I Love Your Way, Do You Feel Like We Do and I’m in You and as the inventor of the “talk box” guitar.
At 16, Frampton was lead singer and guitarist for British teen band The Herd. At 18, he co-founded one of the first super groups, seminal rock act Humble Pie. His fifth solo album, the electrifying Frampton Comes Alive! is one of the top-selling live records of all time, selling more than 6 million copies in the United States alone.
After his successful albums, the rock idol appeared on the cover of the Rolling Stone and co-starred with The Bee Gees in the best-forgotten Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
Frampton was forced to temporarily shelve his music career after a near-fatal automobile accident in 1978. He recorded sporadically throughout the 1980s, most notably Breaking All The Rules (1981), The Art of Control (1982) and Premonition (1986). The following year, he re-entered the public spotlight and began touring as a lead guitarist with longtime friend David Bowie. With the successful release of his 1994 self-titled album followed by Frampton Comes Alive II (1995), he re-embraced his old fans while also attracting a new generation of rock enthusiasts.
In 2003, Frampton released the album Now, and embarked on a tour with Styx to support it. Frampton released his newest album, an instrumental work titled Fingerprints in 2006, winning the Grammy in 2007. He returned to vocals with Thank You, Mr. Churchill, released in 2010. His son Julian helps him out on the track Road to the Sun, a driving blues tune.
Always known for his captivating live performances, Frampton still delivers.
Tickets, which are $65 and $50, are available by calling the JCCC box office at 913-469-4445 or by visiting www.jccc.edu/TheSeries.
