JCCC hosts technology competition for high school students

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Johnson County Community College will hold its first-ever Competitive Technology Event for 9th-12th grade students from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, starting in the JCCC Fieldhouse.

Approximately 300 students from 16 high schools in Johnson, Douglas and Miami counties will be in attendance. These students will compete independently or with classmates in 24 individual contests in areas such as architectural modeling, dragster design, Computer-aided Design (CAD) architecture, CAD engineering, problem solving, fashion, film, flight, music, robotics, transportation and video production. Awards will be given for the top three places and for the top overall school. All participants receive a free t-shirt, free 2 GB flash drive and lunch. One student will be selected to win a Netbook in a random drawing.

The Competitive Technology Event will help prepare students for other state and national competitions, according to Damon Feuerborn, assistant professor, drafting, JCCC. Currently there are no regional competitions. The event is also a way to expose students to technology careers and the JCCC campus while having fun at a free event.

For more information, contact Feuerborn, 913-469-8500, ext. 4909.
