Healthy Aging Symposium
Healthy aging symposium offered at JCCC
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — A symposium for health care professionals, Growing Older Successfully: Healthy Aging Symposium, will be offered from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Friday, Feb. 25, in room 101 of the Regnier Center at Johnson County Community College. The symposium is sponsored by JCCC’s Health and Human Services and the University of Kansas Medical Center’s Alzheimer and Memory Program.
Beginning in 2011, more than 10,000 people will turn 65 in the United States every day. Never before has there been such a need for health professionals to understand the physiological changes that take place in the body and mind, as well as know about the needs and challenges that are faced by older adults who will live longer and want to do more than any previous generation. This multidisciplinary workshop will provide cutting-edge research information on the benefits of physical activity and socialization for adults as they age, explore the physiological benefits to the brain that can come from proper diet and exercise, and offer practical, effective strategies to speak with older patients about many of the lifestyle changes that come with aging.
Speakers are from the University of Kansas Medical Center’s Alzheimer and Memory Program: Jeffrey Burns, MD, MS; David Johnson, PhD; Marty Eng, PharmD; and Eric Vidoni, PT, PhD.
RNs, LPNs, social workers and counselors will earn 6.5 contact hours. Adult care home administrators will earn 6.5 (resident care). Approval is pending for PTs and OTs. Registration is CRN 21368; fee is $81 (network members CRN 21368, $27).
