Eating Disorders Conference
Eating disorders conference scheduled at JCCC
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — The incidence of eating disorders is on the rise, and it’s predicted that this trend will continue. To help the public and professionals understand what causes eating disorders in young people and adults, Johnson County Community College is hosting a conference, Eating Disorders: Beyond Diagnosis and Treatment, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, May 13, in the Capitol Federal Conference Center of the Regnier Center, JCCC.
This conference will explore issues of parenting and family systems, prevention and intervention in schools, and how dieting is related to the development of eating disorders. Recognized experts will present case examples.
In addition, the conference will explore the notion that many weight-loss methods contribute to the development of disordered eating and discuss intervention techniques clinicians can use to stop unhealthy weight loss/weight control methods before they become eating disorders. RNs, PNS, social workers, counselors and dietitians will earn 6.5 contact hours. Approval is pending for PTs and OTs.
Cost is $15 for the general public, $88 for continuing education credit. For more information, please call 913-469-3811.
