U.S. Air Force band performs free concert at JCCC

The United States Air Force Heartland of America Band “Winds of Freedom,” the unit’s premier woodwind chamber ensemble, will perform at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, in Yardley Hall of the Carlsen Center, Johnson County Community College. Tickets are free, but reservations are required. Call the Performing Arts Series box office, 913-469-4445.

Composed of seven virtuoso solo musicians from the larger concert band, the group adds percussion and vocals to traditional woodwind quintet instrumentation to take audiences on a tour of some of the world’s most beautiful and exciting music. Their diverse repertoire also includes jazz and ragtime classics along with popular themes from Broadway’s hit shows to Hollywood’s greatest films. Capt. Michael D. Hoerber serves as commander and conductor.

A free reception precedes the concert at 6 p.m. in the Carlsen Center lobby. JCCC’s Brown & Gold Club, an organization for Johnson County residents 55 and older, is hosting the event, which is open to anyone and all ages.
