Nell Mitchell Wellness Fair

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Nell Mitchell Wellness Fair, promoting health and wellness activities for the community, will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, in the Fieldhouse of the Gymnasium at Johnson County Community College. The event is free and open to the public. The fair features wellness activities, information booths and screenings. People are encouraged to dress casually so they can participate in activities.

Booths include:

  • Back scan with infrared thermal technology, Koch Chiropractic
  • Blood pressure, JCCC nursing students and staff
  • Vision screens, JCCC nursing students and staff
  • Check cardiac, cerebrovascular accident (CVA) risk factors and body mass index (BMI), JCCC nursing students and staff
  • Chair massages, massage therapist Carol Garman, LMT
  • Proactive breast cancer prevention 101, breast cancer advocate Candy Warinner
  • Stress and mental health education, Johnson County Mental Health Department
  • Tobacco, drug and alcohol abuse, Johnson County Regional Prevention Center
  • JCCC Lifetime Fitness Center, wear your walking shoes and get your exercise heart rate
  • Back injury prevention, spinal screening, Fulk Chiropractic
  • Tick-borne diseases, Lyme Association of Greater Kansas City, tick removal kits available
  • Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue disease information and resources, Fibromyalgia Coalition International
  • American Heart Association
  • Nutrition education
  • American Cancer Society information

A session on keeping your core body fit will be presented from 12:15-12:45 p.m.; one can participate or watch. A wellness basket will be awarded at 2 p.m. (need not be present to win).

The wellness fair is an annual event made possible through the Nell Mitchell estate since March 1999. Mitchell, an Overland Park resident and physical education instructor at Paseo High School, left $1 million from her estate to the JCCC Foundation to be used for physical education scholarships and Nell Mitchell speakers and fair for continuing education.
