W. Basketball – JCCC drops Hesston by 39

OVERLAND PARK, KS – The No. 1 ranked Johnson County Community College women’s basketball team improved to 11-1 on the season with a 39-point win at Hesston Saturday afternoon, 79-40. JCCC has won its 11 games this season by an average margin of 36.3 points.

The Lady Cavaliers managed to post the big win despite its worst shooting night from 3-point range this season. Johnson County hit only 3-of-20 attempts from 3- point range. All three makes came from sophomore guard Amy Briggs, who finished with 11 points and six rebounds.

Sophomore forward Polly Harrington was the leader for the Lady Cavaliers, finishing with a season-high 23 points. She hit 8-of-14 shots, and was a perfect 7-of-7 at the charity stripe. She also hauled in a game-high 11 rebounds.

Other key efforts were turned by sophomore guard Tanchelle Hollingsworth (12 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds); sophomore forward Briana Kulas (9 points, 7 rebounds) and sophomore center Kylie Cooper (7 points, 9 rebounds).

Johnson County returns to action Jan. 4, when they travel to Highland to open the East Jayhawk Conference season. Highland is perfect on the season at 10-0 and ranked 16th in the NJCAA D-II women’s basketball.
