Baseball – Cavs bats sink Lakers

OVERLAND PARK, KS – Johnson County Community College, ranked 20th in the current NJCAA Baseball Poll, got its offense going against Longview Community College earlier this week, defeating the Lakers 13-5 in a single nine inning game. Reeling from its first series loss of the season, the Cavaliers pounded out 13 hits in the game and all but one starter recorded a hit.

Skylar Murray led the attack with three hits and Chad Shannon, Caleb Hallman and Mike Andries each recorded two hits. Tyler VanGerpen picked up the win, pitching six innings in relief, allowing just two hits with eighth strikeouts.

The victory improves JCCC’s season mark to 25-10 overall. The Cavaliers will be back in action this weekend when they host cross-town conference rival Kansas City Kansas Community College in a four-game series. First pitch on Saturday is 1 p.m. Sunday’s double header is scheduled for a noon start.
