Baseball coaches to host showcase camp

OVERLAND PARK, KS – The Johnson County Community College baseball coaching staff will host its fourth annual Winter Showcase Camp, Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012.  The camp will begin at 9 a.m., for position players, and pitchers will begin at Noon.  Cost is $85 for one camp, or $120 to participate in both camps.  Last year, the showcase camp had 120 players participate, and 50 college coaches and Major League scouts in attendance.

The JCCC Winter Showcase Camp is an advanced clinic that will allow high school players the opportunity to showcase their skills in front of professional scouts, community college coaches and four-year college and university coaches from the Midwest.   The camp participants will go through a pro style workout, and results will be posted on the JCCC web site.  The camp will be held in the 46,000 square foot JCCC Fieldhouse.

Players will run through a pro-style workout, which includes:

  • 60-yard dash
  • Home-to-first times
  • Outfielders and infielders arm strength and defensive fundamentals
  • Catchers pop times and receiving actions during bull pen sessions
  • Pitchers will throw off a mound
  • Hitting circuit with live evaluation cage
