Alberto Suarez gives recital in Ruel Joyce Series

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Alberto Suarez, principal horn, Kansas City Symphony, will perform at noon Monday, March 15, in the Recital Hall of the Carlsen Center, Johnson County Community College, as part of the free Ruel Joyce Recital Series featuring classical Kansas City musicians.

Prior to joining the KCS, Suarez was a member of the New World Symphony. He has a bachelor's degree in music from Northern Illinois University and a master's degree in music and graduate diploma from the New England Conservatory of Music. James Sommerville, principal horn for the Boston Symphony Orchestra, has been his primary instructor since 2001.

As a member of the Huntington Brass Quintet, Suarez received critical acclaim for the 2002 recording, Daniel Pinkham: Music for Brass, and was part of Chamber Music America's Rural Residency program. Pianist Dan Velicer will accompany Suarez on the program.

The Ruel Joyce Recital Series continues at noon Mondays in the Recital Hall with:

The series, named for Ruel Joyce, a longtime jazz bassist who headed the local musicians’ federation from 1977 until his death in 1989, is cosponsored by the JCCC music departments, Community Services and the Richard J. Stern Foundation for the Arts. Seating is available first-come, first-served.
