Nyasha Zimucha

Alumna Nyasha Zimucha

Nyasha Zimucha, known as Nancy by all her JCCC friends, is not afraid to take risks and follow her dreams. Her can-do attitude is why she has gone from a Golden Girl at JCCC to a NFL cheerleader, professional dancer, recording artist, model, TV personality and beauty queen.

A 24 -year old native of South Africa, Zimucha was a two-time captain of the Golden Girls dance team under head coach Susan Dey. Following her two years at JCCC, Zimucha attended Bridgewater State College outside Boston, but she wanted more.  Dey advised her on what it took to be an NFL cheerleader.  Zumucha tried out for the New England Patriots squad and made the team. That was the beginning of many great opportunities for Zumacha.

"I needed to start thinking outside my box and not be afraid to try things," Zimucha said.  "I took a chance going to Boston after JCCC, but that chance allowed me to take other chances and not be afraid to take risks."

She trained with Johanna Wright School of ballet in East London, South Africa, Kishaya Dudley, Laurie Ann Gibson, and Broadway Dance Center in New York City, studying singing, jazz, hip-hop and theater. Zimucha kept striving to make it to the next level so she moved to Los Angeles. Being in LA opened even more doors as she danced for many Grammy-winning artists on various tours, shows and concerts.

Zimucha has now performed in more than 200 venues worldwide. She has worked as an assistant director for Donald Trump's Miss Universe Inc., has appeared in J’Adore magazine, The Daily Dispatch, and was named “One of the Top 10 Visionaries of 2009” by New York based AfricanMag. She has served as a NASCAR and Boost Mobile spokesmodel, and VJ for MLG TV (Major League Gaming).

She is also a WEtv (Women's Entertainment) personality and has been featured on E!, and BBC World.  She also recently performed in South Africa promoting her debut single Rise Up which is available on iTunes and is currently in the studio recording her first album, along with various other business projects she’s working on in the entertainment industry.

In 2008, Zimucha entered and won her first ever beauty pageant as Miss Africa USA, She is the first South African women to be awarded the title and took the pageant to even greater levels applying her ambitious drive throughout her reign.

"I have a list of things I always wanted to do before I die, and winning a beauty pageant was one of them,” Zimucha said. "Funny thing is I’m far from the stereotype of a beauty queen. Winning gave me an opportunity to grow even more meeting so many influential people that inspired me on my journey in promoting my Global Citizen Campaign, while representing the second largest continent in the World here in the US.”

Along with her career in the entertainment industry, Zimucha volunteers countless hours, giving back to her local and African community.  She also continues to support other worthy causes such as the Endometriosis Foundation of America, The Diamond Empowerment Fund, Habitat for Humanity, the Salvation Army and UNICEF.

When asked, what’s next for her? She simply answered:

“I’m grateful for humble beginnings and am always cooking something in the kitchen – I still feel like I haven’t shown the World what I’m really made of!”
