JCCC's biotechnology associate of science degree prepares students who wish to pursue a baccalaureate degree in the biological sciences. Upon completion of this 78-credit-hour degree, you'll be able to find entry-level or higher positions in the diverse field of biotechnology or go on to finish a bachelor's degree. Sometimes, you may be able to work and have your company subsidize your further education.
The biotechnology associate of applied science degree is intended for those who want to become a career technician, supporting bioscientists. The program prepare you to work in biotechnology laboratories associated with universities, medical centers, private research institutions and a variety of industrial applications. Upon completion of this 66-68-credit-hour degree, you'll be able to find entry-level or higher positions in diverse fields of biotechnology.
The 35-41-credit-hour biotechnology certificate is for those seeking employment in the biotechnology industry, either in private or academic research laboratories. It's especially useful for those who already have another type of degree and need retraining. The certificate will demonstrate to potential employers that you have experience in performing a variety of techniques necessary for day-to-day operations.
All programs offer specific knowledge and training designed to provide you with entry-level skills for employment as a technician. Along with basic and more advanced science courses, you'll take specialized courses such as laboratory safety and biotechnology methods. The courses also provide the breadth of background sufficient to encourage change and flexibility.
