Learn electrical technology
JCCC trains electricians to install and maintain electrical systems in homes and businesses for a variety of purposes, including lighting, appliances, climate control, security and communications. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on training integrated with theory and study of the National Electrical Code that prepares students to take a national licensure exam.
JCCC offers an associate of applied science degree in electrical technology. The 65-credit-hour program prepares you to enter the electrical trade in four types of electrical occupations: residential, commercial, industrial and maintenance. The programs also prepare students for continued education in electrical contracting/management, electrical design and industrial/electronic controls.
The college also offers a number of certificates in electrical technology:
- The 16-credit-hour electrical technology residential wiring certificate can be completed in one semester. The certificate gives you the basic skills to work as a residential electrician (wireman).
- The 16-credit-hour electrical technology commercial wiring vocational certificate program can be completed in one semester. The certificate gives you the basic skills for employment as a commercial electrician.
- The 26-credit-hour electrical technology industrial electrical wiring certificate can be completed in two semesters. The certificate gives you the basic skills to work as an industrial electrician.
- The 28-credit-hour, two-semester residential electrical design certificate program gives you the basic skills needed to work as an electrical design technician for single-family and multi-family housing. The electrical design process for residential construction includes design for single-phase electrical services, feeders, branch circuits, appliances, lighting, communication/data and fire safety.
- The 29-credit-hour electrical technology vocational certificate program can be completed in two semesters. Designed to give you the basic skills to work as a construction or maintenance electrician, the program includes an internship with local employers.
- The 36-credit-hour, 3-semester commercial electrical design certificate program provides you the basic skills needed to work as an electrical design technician for commercial electrical projects, including design for 3-phase electrical services, feeders, branch circuits, appliances, lighting, communication/data, fire safety, motors and control circuits.
