International Education

International Education

JCCC has many opportunities for international education, both at home and abroad.

JCCC students can study in one of 30 countries, ranging from Australia to Thailand. Students attend college in the host country, earning 12 to 15 credit hours and live in a dorm, an apartment or with a host family. By immersing themselves in another culture, study abroad students gain an international perspective and prepare themselves to live in a global economy.

Students who can't spend time abroad may participate in an intercultural semester at home, allowing them to "go global while staying local." During the intercultural semester, students have an opportunity to interact on a regular basis with members of another culture, work in an intercultural environment and study a cluster of courses that focus on a specific culture.

JCCC also participates in an international service learning project in Las Pintas, Mexico. Students, faculty and staff work with the community center El Centro Integral Comunitario in Las Pintas, providing medical and social services. Recent JCCC teams have provided medical and dental screenings, preventive health care classes, educational programs for parents, educational activities and scholarships for children, and assistance with construction projects. Students who want a longer project may participate in semester-length service learning programs in 11 countries.

JCCC is one of 17 colleges and universities that serve as regional centers for the infusion of Asian content in the American undergraduate curriculum through a formal relationship with the Asian Studies Development Program, a joint program of the University of Hawaii and the East-West Center. JCCC has a core of faculty with expertise in areas of Asian studies who work with colleagues at other institutions and JCCC students, faculty and staff to increase their knowledge of Asia and the inclusion of Asian topics in college courses.

JCCC also offers international courses in business, humanities and social sciences and 10 foreign languages. JCCC's six partner colleges from around the world bring international faculty here, and experts on international topics visit the campus each year.
