Health, physical ed and wellness
Physical activity, wellness, and the knowledge of exercise science are imperative to your physical fitness, emotional health and intellectual growth. Therefore, JCCC's Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Wellness (HPER & Wellness) department promotes and provides opportunities for physical activity, wellness and the study of exercise sciences for JCCC students, employees and staff.
The campus has excellent indoor and outdoor athletic facilities. The indoor facilities include the 3,500-seat gymnasium and the Fieldhouse, a 43,000-square-foot area with a 200-meter, six-lane track and a multifunctional area that can be configured for basketball, volleyball and tennis. The outdoor facilities include six tennis courts, baseball and softball diamonds, a 10-lane track and soccer fields.
In the Gymnasium, the Barbara Gill Lifetime Fitness Center provides an opportunity for individuals to exercise to develop overall muscle tone and cardiovascular conditioning. The center is open to students enrolled in Lifetime Fitness courses and JCCC employees (and spouses and dependents) who have completed an assessment.
Each professional member of the HPER staff has studied at the master's level in physical education or related fields. One of these instructors is in the Lifetime Fitness Center at all times. Your questions about fitness will be answered by someone who knows the subject area and keeps up with the research. If you wish, the staff can test your flexibility, abdominal endurance, cardiovascular fitness and body fat percentage as a measure of your progress.
