Learn cosmetology at JCCC
JCCC's cosmetology, esthetics and nail technology program teaches you to care for hair, nails and skin.
Cosmetology relies on creative people who use their ability to visualize shapes and forms for hair design and personal care. Professionals need manual dexterity, an understanding of chemistry and superior client communication skills.
Employment opportunities for cosmetologists, estheticians and nail technicians are available in beauty salons, department stores, health care and hotel facilities. Entrepreneurship opportunities are also available for those who want to start their own business. Additional employment choices include nail artist, complexion care, cosmetic or beauty supply sales and services, manufacturing technician and color chemist.
JCCC's cosmetology program is a one-year course of instruction offered in three semesters. The program provides theory and skill development in hair services (shampooing, cutting shaping, curling and coloring), as well as nail technology (manicuring, artificial nails) and esthetics (skin care and facials). By the conclusion of the program, you are prepared to take the Kansas State Board of Cosmetology examination, which leads to professional licensure.
With 19 additional credits, students who have completed the program may earn an associate of applied science degree in cosmetology.
JCCC's nail technology certificate provides theory and skill development in artistic application of artificial nail services, including the application of fiberglass and silk wraps, tips with overlay, sculptured nails, and gels. Pedicures, manicures and identification of the various diseases and disorders of the nails are also taught. Upon completion of this program, students are prepared for the Kansas State Board of Cosmetology Onychology licensure written and practical exams.
For JCCC's esthetics certificate, you learn theory and skill development in sanitation, skin sciences, skin treatments, waxing, makeup and business practices. Upon completion of this program, students are prepared for the Kansas State Board of Cosmetology for Estheticians licensure written and practical exams.
