Learning Strategies Program

Learning Strategies at JCCC

JCCC's learning strategies program helps students meet the challenges of college coursework and become successful learners. The program is designed for any student who wants to build confidence and skills in learning.

Research shows that students who take learning strategies classes improve their grades and grade point average. Whether you are a successful student who wants to improve your memory or study habits, a student struggling with a subject such as math or history, or a student returning to college after a long absence, there's a learning strategies class that's right for you.

Learning strategies courses teach thinking, learning and self-management strategies necessary for success at the college level. These include using a textbook, listening, taking lecture notes, memory and math strategies. Students make direct application of the strategies to their course materials and assignments. Organization and management of class assignments and use of time management principles are also addressed in the classes.

Because all learning strategies are practiced on materials relevant to current classes, it's necessary that learning strategies students be enrolled in at least one other college course.
