Journalism, media communications
Students in JCCC's journalism and media communications program gain knowledge and experience through more comprehensive classes and hands-on opportunities than are offered by any other two-year college in the metropolitan area.
Students in JCCC's journalism classes can shoot and edit projects in state-of-the-art video production facilities; report, anchor, produce and direct programming on the student TV show, JCAV-TV; earn money and experience working on the nationally recognized student newspaper, The Campus Ledger; or join ECAV, an Internet radio station. Unlike four-year schools, where students have to be juniors and seniors to work on a newspaper or on TV, opportunities like these are available to freshmen and sophomores at JCCC.
In addition, an extensive media internship program provides a strong foundation for transfer to a four-year degree program, a career in media or advancement in a current job. More than 100 types of internships provide students the opportunity to take classroom learning into the real work of supervised, on-the-job training - and earn college credit at the same time. Internships at radio and television stations, video production houses, newspapers, magazines and related businesses are available.
JCCC's journalism and media communications program offers 17 courses. Most four-year colleges accept the transfer of up to 12 credits in journalism and media communications classes taken at JCCC. Journalism professors have many years of working experience in the media.
