Abbey Road, Kansas City's Beatles tribute band

Abbey Road
Kansas City's Beatles tribute band

8:30 p.m., September 2, 2016 | Nerman Museum Lawn

Part of Johnson County Community College's Light Up the Lawn summer concert series. The concerts take place at 8:30 p.m. on the front lawn of the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art. Lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets without alcohol are welcome. No tickets are required. Starting at 7 p.m., Kona Ice will have shaved ice, soft drinks and water for sale!

This seven-member Beatles band was co-founded in 1996 by Chris Boyd and Alex Kunellis. True to the original music with few artistic liberties, Abbey Road provides a high energy performance of up to four hours of Beatles hits from 1962 to 1970.

Abbey Road has performed at festivals, parties and celebrations in the Kansas City area for 20 years. Fans will appreciate their attention to musical detail, and enjoy a show that takes them on a trip through time with the "lads from Liverpool."

Band Members

Alex Kunellis, Lead Vocals

He can flat out sing. Coveted by many area bands as a vocalist, he was attracted to Abbey Road for the opportunity to broaden his musical skills. Alex is currently studying cowbell and tambourine at a renowned local institute.

Chris Boyd, Lead Guitar

As a lad he would play his favorite Beatle song, "Ticket to Ride," so often that he wore out several vinyl copies and his mother's patience. Chris still thinks there are eight days in a week because it says so in a Beatles song.

Rick Haynes, Vocals, Rhythm Guitar

Rick is a legend in his own mind regarding Beatle trivia. His musical talents are obvious but it is his ability to carry massive loads of heavy musical equipment that endears him to his band mates.

Chris Symmonds, Drums

Chris started with piano at age 4. He then progressed to the next hardest instrument to transport, the drums. His influences are Ringo, Keith Moon, Charlie Watts, and Moe, Larry, and Curly. His parents were at first supportive of his musical leanings, but soon decided drums were "just too noisy." He was forced out of the home and had lived in obscurity till joining Abbey Road.

Dave Patmore, Vocals, Percussion

It takes two seconds with Dave to know he is NOT an engineer. Silly jokes, stage antics and a raw passion for music are only part of his make up. We don’t know what the other parts are. A prolific songwriter, Dave plays in several other bands that are much better than Abbey Road but not as much fun.

Tim Godfrey, Keyboards

He is the master of sound effects. Piano, synthesizer, strings, harmonica and even jet airplane sounds emanate from his specialized gear. He is the bands resident electrical and sonic guru.

Mike Sullivan, Bass

Mike's first record as a child was "She Loves You" on the Swan label. A lifelong Beatles fan fortunate enough to own a vintage 1964 Hofner bass who wanted to be a Beatle when he grew up. Some dreams come true.
