The Brubeck Brothers Quartet features two members of one of America's most accomplished musical families. Chris Brubeck and Dan Brubeck, sons of famous jazz pianist Dave Brubeck, will appear Friday, January 20, 2012, with guitarist Mike DeMicco and pianist Chuck Lamb.

The quartet's show is part of the college's third annual Jazz Winterlude, which runs from Jan. 20-22. To attend, buy tickets to Jazz Winterlude.

The show will open with three local bands. The Bill Crain Quartet will perform from 6 to 7 p.m., Crosscurrent will play from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. and the JCCC Faculty Jazz Combo will play a short set before the Brubeck Brothers take the stage.

The Brubeck Brothers quartet's style is rooted in straight ahead jazz, but its concerts reveal an innate ability to explore and play odd time signatures while integrating funk, blues and world music.

Chris Brubeck, on bass and trombone, and Dan Brubeck, on drums, released their first album, See How It Feels, in 1972. Since then, the Brubeck Brothers have produced several other albums, including Second Nature in 2000, Intuition in 2006 and Classified in 2008.

In reviewing Classified, All About Jazz stated: "Once again the BBQ attains that rarefied level where music is both relaxed and expressive and their joy in its creation is contagious. There's really nothing out there that comes close to their unique brand of inventiveness."

The quartet has performed at concert series, colleges and jazz festivals across North America and Europe. It also has collaborated with chamber groups and orchestras, including the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Russian National Symphony Orchestra.
