JCCC rallies support for past Johnson Countian of Year SuEllen Fried

November 17, 2015

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – SuEllen Fried, a long-time supporter of scholarships at Johnson County Community College, has been named a finalist in a national contest sponsored by L’Oreal Paris/USA.

From more than 6,000 candidates, Fried was chosen one of 10 honorees in the “Women of Worth” promotion that supports the efforts of women who are making extraordinary contributions in their community.

Fried was recognized for her work with Reaching Out From Within, a non-profit helping prisoners understand the roots of their violence so they might become productive citizens. More information about the organization is available online.

The second phase of the promotion began Nov. 2 and closes Friday, Nov. 20. Votes are needed to propel Fried and Reaching Out From Within to the top spot. The top vote-getter receives $25,000 for her charity.

“This is a great opportunity to help out our own hometown heroine as well as a local charity, a great program and a former Johnson Countian of the Year,” said Greg Musil, chair of the JCCC board of trustees.

JCCC named Fried Johnson Countian of the Year in 1993, an award bestowed upon someone who has made significant contributions to Johnson County. The awardee is recognized during a yearly Some Enchanted Evening fundraiser for student scholarships.

To help Fried and her organization, vote at the L’Oreal WOW website daily. On Thursday, Nov. 19, and that day alone after 9 a.m., you may vote three ways: on the website, by “likes” on Facebook or by retweet on Twitter.
