JCCC debate team wins awards at two tournaments

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The JCCC debate team traveled to two tournaments Oct. 17 and 18, with debaters winning awards at both tournaments.
At Emporia State University, Joe Getto and Arriq Singleton advanced to the quarterfinals after preliminary wins against the University of Northern Iowa, Wichita State University, and Emporia State University. The team lost their quarterfinal debate against the eventual tournament champion.
Arriq Singleton was recognized as the 9th overall speaker at the tournament.
The team also traveled to Central Missouri State University to compete in a Lincoln-Douglas debate event. First-year JCCC debater Parker Hopkins advanced to elimination rounds as the 9th overall speaker, with preliminary round victories over individuals from Western Kentucky University, Marshall University and Sterling College. He lost in his first elimination round.
Parker’s performance at this tournament qualified him to the Lincoln-Douglas National Tournament held at Ball State University.
