Student Fitness Center Orientations
If you enroll in or register for a lifetime fitness class, credit or non-credit, call the fitness center at 913-469-4432 and sign up for an orientation session. You must attend an orientation session before you begin working out.
Credit students must have a current application on file and must pay tuition for their one credit hour lifetime fitness course.
The orientation sessions are held at specific times during the first few weeks of each semester. Each session lasts 90 minutes. You should be dressed in activity clothes when you attend.
You must purchase the book "Lifetime Fitness and Wellness Manual" and bring it with you to orientation. The book will be reviewed and the instructor will:
- Have you sign a consent form
- Help you fill out a risk profile sheet
- Measure your pre-exercise heart rate and blood pressure
- Explain the policies and procedures of using the Fitness Center
- Explain the use of the machines in the circuit
Credit students must meet the grade requirements for their lifetime fitness class as specified in the required textbook.
If you have completed Lifetime Fitness I, the next class to take is Lifetime Fitness II (HPER 241), then Lifetime Fitness III (HPER 242), and finally Lifetime Fitness IV (HPER 243). Upon completion of all four classes, if you would like to continue your enrollment in the fitness center you may continue enrolling in Lifetime Fitness IV.
Non-Credit Students
If a person does not want to receive a grade then they must enroll in Lifetime Fitness through Continuing Education. The student must pay for this class and schedule the initial orientation to begin the course. Students must register each semester they want to use the lifetime fitness center. Though they will not receive a grade for the class, there is a required textbook, "Lifetime Fitness and Wellness Manual." Enrollment for a non-credit lifetime fitness class is limited so it is important to register early.
