Civic Honors: A study in community engagement

The civic honors program at JCCC is designed to help students gain the knowledge, develop the skills, confirm the values, and practice the behaviors required of citizens in a democratic society. The program provides a framework of courses, training, reflection, and experience designed to increase a student's capacity for, self-confidence in, and commitment to effective community engagement and participation. A JCCC student graduating with civic honors is one who has made civic education and community experience a deliberate part of his or her college education and one whose civic efforts and achievements have been exemplary.

For more information about the civic honors program, contact Marcia Shideler, coordinator, community-based learning, 913-469-8500, ext. 3570, shideler@jccc.edu.
