JCCC Students Plan Self-defense Class

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Lambda Alpha Epsilon, a student criminal justice organization at Johnson County Community College, and Krav Maga & Fitness Center are co-sponsoring a free personal safety seminar for women ages 16* and older from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, July 22, at the Overland Park Marriott Hotel, 10800 Metcalf Avenue.

The seminar will have a panel discussion with Q&A, presentation on personal awareness and safety, and two-hour self-defense class. The panel  will consist of professionals from a variety of different backgrounds who can speak about their perspectives on how to deal with the personal, legal, physical and psychological aftermath of a violent attack.

The event is being officially supported by the Johnson County Chiefs and Sheriff's Association as well.  The seminar is free to all participants; a $10 donation to the Kelsey Smith fund is suggested. Space is limited to 100 attendees so advance registration is required. Participants can register by sending their name and age to defendyourselfkc@yahoo.com, an email address established specifically for this event.

Participants should wear warm-up pants or sweats, t-shirt and tennis shoes. *Those under the age of 18 need to have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian. For more information, call Melody Rayl, JCCC assistant professor, administration of justice/psychology, 913-469-8500, ext. 3491, or visit www.KravMagaKC.com.
