GLBTSU Hosts Pride Awareness Day

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – To celebrate gay pride, the Johnson County Community College Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender Student Union (GLBTSU) will sponsor a Pride Awareness Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, in the Commons Courtyard.

The entertainment will involve a drag show with performances by drag kings and queens including Miss Gay Missouri, Carl Glorioso. Also featured will be speakers discussing GLBT issues and their own experiences as members of the GLBT community.

A number of organizations will be represented including the Kansas Equality  Coalition, PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays), Kansas City Pride, Kansas City Anti-Violence Project, National Gay and Lesbian Law Association, Gay Rodeo Association and Gay Softball League.

The purpose of this event is to raise awareness about GLBT issues, break down stereotypes, promote diversity and celebrate difference.
