VERLAND PARK, Kan. – Rep. Dennis Moore (D-Ks.) and Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Ks.) will present Reaching Across the Aisle: Bipartisanship in Washington, D.C. from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, in Polsky Theatre of the Carlsen Center, Johnson County Community College. Moore and Roberts will speak as part of the Polsky Practical Personal Enrichment Series. The seminar is free, but seating is limited. Reserve tickets by calling the JCCC box office, 913-469-4445. Reserved parking is available. Refreshments and networking are offered one-half hour before and after the program.
Roberts has worked on behalf of Kansans in Washington, D.C., for more than 40 years – first as a staffer for the late Rep. Keith Sebelius (R-Ks.), then as an eight-term congressman and now as a two-term senator. He has a long history of working with members of both political parties in the effort to effectively represent the daily lives and pocketbooks of everyday Kansans. Roberts serves on the Senate Finance Committee, Ethics Committee and Health, Education and Labor (HELP) Committee.
Moore, a lifelong Kansan, is currently serving his fifth term in the U.S. House of Representatives (Third District), where he is a member of the House Committees on the Budget and Financial Services; co-chair of the Blue Dog Coalition, a group of moderate to conservative Democrats committed to restoring fiscal responsibility and accountability to government; and member of the Center Aisle Caucus, a group formed to bring more civility and bipartisanship to Congress. Prior to his service in Congress, Moore was elected district attorney in Johnson County, serving from 1976-1988, and was elected to two terms on the JCCC board of trustees.
Moore and Roberts will share stories regarding their unique experiences and take questions from the audience.
This series of educational presentations is underwritten by the Norman & Elaine Polsky Family Supporting Foundation within the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation in partnership with Johnson County Community College. The series includes a number of topics which are not now being offered in a formal academic program. Each event is free and open to senior citizens, students and the general public.
