JCCC Hosts May Concerts

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. ­– Johnson County Community College will host four May concerts in the Carlsen Center – all free and open to the public.


• May 1 – The JCCC Music Masters Concert Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Polsky Theatre. The program is all Frank Ticheli music including Abracadabra, Vesuvius and Joy Revisited. The director is Ron Stinson, associate professor, instrumental music.


• May 6 – The Johnson County Chorus, directed by Anita Cyrier, will perform Broadway Revue at 3 p.m. in Yardley Hall. The community chorus will sing 22 songs from 16 musicals including Beauty and the Beast, West Side Story, Phantom of the Opera and Chicago. Also singing are the Young Singers of Overland Park, directed by Jan Jensen, in a medley from High School Musical. The JCC is composed of 60-80 adult volunteers.


• May 8 – JCCC Jazz Night features the Midnight Blues Jazz Choir and Midnight Express Jazz Ensemble, directed by Stinson, at 7:30 p.m. in Polsky Theatre. Works by JCCC adjunct faculty Geoff Wilcken and Clint Ashlock will be on the program.


• May 9 – The JCCC Chamber Choir and MadRegalia perform at 7:30 p.m. in Polsky Theatre, directed by Terri Teal, associate professor, vocal music. Pieces by Chet Alwes, Samuel Barber, Morton Lauridsen and  Brazilian composer Ernani Aguiar are on the program. MadRegalia will sing madrigals by Thomas Morley and William Byrd.
