JCCC names spaces to honor donors

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The board of trustees of Johnson County Community College approved new names for rooms on campus at their monthly meeting June 21.

Room 141 of the General Education Building, formerly known as the Kansas Room, will now be known as the Robert F. Lytle Conference Room. Lytle was instrumental in establishing the college in 1967-69 and served as the college’s legal counsel for almost 40 years. He was also a member of the JCCC Foundation board of directors. He passed away this spring.

“Since the early 1960s, Bob was one of this college’s greatest advocates,” said Joe Sopcich, director, institutional advancement. “His belief in JCCC was sincere and genuine, and his advocacy went beyond words. He created a scholarship endowment honoring his parents, Ivan and Sylvia. This scholarship, in their name, helps students interested in teaching careers better their lives, and that of others, through education. We’re so proud that this conference room will carry his name.”

In addition, the campus scheduling offices in the new Regnier Center will be known as the Ad Astra Scheduling Suite, named for Ad Astra Scheduling Systems. The college uses Ad Astra Schedule software for scheduling classrooms, meeting rooms and public spaces. Ad Astra has agreed to gift the upgrade to its system, Platinum Analytics, in exchange for the naming opportunity, a $50,000 value.

“The Ad Astra Scheduling Suite is a wonderful addition to our new, high-technology Regnier Center,” said Lin Knudson, dean, Continuing Education and Community Services. “We appreciate the long-standing relationship we have with Ad Astra and are looking forward to showcasing Astra Schedule in our new buildings.”

The suite will house the campus scheduling office and the new director of conference services and is located near the new 5,000-square-foot conference space in the Regnier Center and the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art.
