JCCC Dollars for Scholars ‘Treasure Hunt’ Provides Scholarships

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College’s Dollars for Scholars, an annual fund-raiser for student scholarships, begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 27, at the Ritz Charles, 9000 W. 137th St. This year’s theme, Treasure Hunt: Quest for Knowledge, promises a jolly time for pirates and mates who include alumni, the public, faculty, staff and students.

The evening will feature live and silent auctions, buffet dinner, beverages, raffle, games of chance and entertainment. Tickets are $20 a person, $10 for students with a JCCC ID or $176 for a reserved table of eight.

Professional  Brian Carmitchael will be the auctioneer. Included in the auction are hundreds of items, ranging from certificates to restaurants and services, vacation getaways and sports memorabilia.

College teams raising money for student assistance and programs are members of the JCCC dance team, biotechnology club, paralegal alumni, the GED Testing Center, Project Finish, Intercultural Center, International Students, Model United Nations Club, Continuing Education/Community Service Youth Sports Clinics, Las Pintas service-learning project, JCCC Student Senate, the two-year honor fraternity Phi Theta Kappa, Student Services, JCCC Office Professionals League, Student American Dental Hygienists' Association, Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) and these JCCC programs — athletic, dental hygiene, emergency medical science, fashion merchandising and design, hospitality management, industrial technology and interior design.

The 2006 auction raised more than $54,000 for student scholarships and programming; 220 volunteers from throughout the college, including students, made the event a success.

To volunteer, make reservations for the auction or donate an item, contact Kristin McDaniel, auction coordinator, JCCC Foundation, 913-469-3835, kmcdanl@jccc.net.
