JCCC Hosts December Concerts

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College will host holiday music concerts performed by students in the JCCC music department and community members during December in the Carlsen Center. All concerts are free and open to the public.

• Dec. 4 –  JCCC Jazz night will feature the Midnight Express Jazz Ensemble, saxophone quintet and Midnight Express Nonet (nine musicians) at 7:30 p.m. in Polsky Theatre. Ron Stinson, professor, instrumental music, is the concert director.

• Dec. 5 – JCCC Choir Concert performs at 7:30 p.m. in Polsky Theatre. Terri Teal, associate professor, vocal music, is the concert director.

• Dec. 9 –  Johnson County Chorus, Johnson County Choraliers, St. Joseph Community Chorus and the Young Singers of Overland Park will perform a Holiday Concert with a Twist at 3 p.m. in Yardley Hall. The concert will include songs from many countries, such as Infant Holy, Infant Lowly, a Polish carol; This Little Light of Mine, an African American spiritual; The Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy, a West Indian carol; A Jubilant Song with text by Walt Whitman; and a combined chorus singing a blend of favorite classic carols. Anita Cyrier is the artistic director for the Johnson County Chorus and select chorus, the Choraliers; Jan Jensen, director, Young Singers of Overland Park; and Frank Thomas, artistic director, St. Joseph Community Chorus.
