JCCC announces 2007-2008 community arts partners

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Johnson County Community College’s branch of Continuing Education and Community Services has announced its community arts partners for 2007-2008.

The partnerships help nonprofit community organizations present programming in the college’s Carlsen Center. For partners, the rental fee is waived for any of the center’s four theaters for one day, on a space-available basis. For the 2007-2008 partners, JCCC has waived $8,000 in theater rental costs.

Partnerships awarded for the 2006-2007 academic year are:

·        Kansas University/Kansas City Youth Wind Symphony, for a concert of 
         musicians from 30 area schools in Yardley Hall

·        A Fountain City Brass Band performance in Yardley Hall

·        The Kansas City Civic Orchestra performing the Benjamin Britten War 
         Requiem with the Kansas City Symphony Chorus in Yardley Hall

·        The Senior Barn Players giving a preview of plays in Polsky Theatre

·        The Theater League’s festival of new musicals in Polsky Theatre

Dates for these events have not been determined.

Community arts partners must be not-for-profit organizations but not necessarily performing arts groups. Prospective partners must go through a selection process that looks at criteria such as the mission of the organization, the target audience of the program and other revenue sources. Johnson County groups receive preferential consideration.

Partnership applications for the 2008-2009 academic year will be accepted In January and February 2008. Community partners may not reapply for partnership within a year of an event. For information, call 913-469-4423.
