Carlsen Center 2007-2008 Season Announced

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Charles Rogers, artistic director, the Carlsen Center for the Performing Arts, Johnson County Community College, has announced the Center’s 2007-2008 season, which features a world premiere by the Paul Taylor Dance Company and two commissions – a piano concerto by Roberto Sierra to be performed by pianist Ian Hobson with Sinfonia da Camera and a violin sonata by Jennifer Higdon written for Jennifer Koh. Conductor/violinist Andrew Manze returns, this year with the Scandinavia’s Helsingborg Symphony.

Stepping to the lighter side are Step Crew, 3 Mo’ Divas and Cirqueworks Birdhouse Factory, where circus acrobatics combine with early 20th century machines. Favorites such as Tango Buenos Aires, Yamato and the Las Vegas-style Aeros return. Riders in the Sky pay tribute to Gene Autry, and multicultural groups – Spirit of Uganda, Nordic Voices and the Moiseyev Dance Company – add a world flavor.

The Carlsen Center is the largest multidiscipline performing arts series in the Midwest with dance, comedy, theater, opera, classical, pop, folk and jazz music – all represented in this year’s line-up. The season is listed chronologically here. Shows begin at 8 p.m. in Yardley Hall of the Carlsen Center unless otherwise noted.
