JCCC enrollment sees slight decrease

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – As of the 20th day of the fall 2007 semester, 18,913 students are enrolled at Johnson County Community College, a decrease of not quite 1 percent from the total of 19,098 in fall 2006. The number of credit hours in which students are enrolled is 159,234, a decrease of almost 1.5 percent from the total of 161,644 for fall 2006.

The decrease can be partially attributed to a decline in the number of older part-time students. In addition, there have been changes to the College Now program, in which high school students can take classes in local high schools for college credit. New Kansas regulations no longer allow younger students to enroll in such classes.

“Today’s job market demands an educated and trained workforce,” said Terry A. Calaway, JCCC president. “It’s important that we meet the needs of our working students and their employers.”
