JCCC trustees establish structure of presidential screening committee
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – At a special meeting of the Johnson County Community College board of trustees Aug. 15, the board set direction for the upcoming search for a new college president.
The board charged a soon-to-be-organized JCCC New President Screening Committee to produce a slate of the most qualified candidates for the position of college president, not to exceed a total of eight.
The screening committee will be chaired by trustees Elaine Perilla and Ben Hodge, with one representative from each of these groups:
  • faculty who are members of the college’s Faculty Association
  • faculty who are not members of the Faculty Association
  • part-time faculty members
  • JCCC staff
  • the Office Professionals League (an organization of office professionals at JCCC)
  • students enrolled for the fall ‘06 semester
  • members of the JCCC Foundation
  • current mayors of cities in Johnson County
  • superintendents of the county’s K-12 school districts
  • business leaders within the county,
  • past or present members of the Kansas legislature and the Kansas state senate (one each)
  • JCCC administrators
  • leaders of the county’s faith community
The committee will number 16 members in all.
Each group to be represented will receive a letter from the trustees asking them to select representatives who could serve on the screening committee and to send that slate of names to the board. The names of the committee members will be presented to the trustees at their regular meeting Sept. 21.
After their September meeting, the board will meet later that month with Dr. Jeff Hockaday of the search firm, Hockaday-Hunter & Associates, Sanford, N.C.
The next regular meeting of the JCCC board of trustees is 5 p.m. Sept. 21 in the Hugh W. Speer Board Room, 137 GEB. All board of trustees meetings are open to the public.
