JCCC Begins New Program for Gifted Children

    OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College in conjunction with the Blue Valley School District’s Gifted Education Program is offering a new program for gifted students in grades 6-8 from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14-Nov. 2, at Overland Trail Middle School, 133rd and Lamar.

    Four classes will be offered:
Beginning Chinese, a fundamental study of Mandarin Chinese
Storm Warning!, a focus on weather forecasting and meteorological events
Potential to Publish: eWriters, an opportunity to read eZines and submit works for publication
Wild Numbers!, an advanced math class on topics not found in traditional math curriculum

    Students must have an Individualized Education Plan or have tested in the 98th percentile on an IQ test. Enrollment is $150 for each eight-week class. Classes are offered to eligible students in any school district or private school or to home-school students. For more information, call E.J.
