Roger Wilder Trio Jazzes Up the Noon Hour

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Roger Wilder Trio will perform at noon Tuesday, Oct. 3, in the Recital Hall of the Carlsen Center, Johnson County Community College, as part of the free jazz series featuring Kansas City musicians.
The trio is Wilder, piano, Rob Scheps, tenor saxophone, and Gerald Spaits, bass.
Wilder, received his bachelor of music degree from the University of Miami in 1986 and continued to record and perform in South Florida, most notably in groups assembled to back Stanley Turrentine, Randy Brecker, Adam Nussbaum and Chris Potter. In 1995, he and his wife moved to the New York City area for five years, where his activities included teaching, performing and recording. He and Scheps performed several times during this period and recorded informally.
Six years ago, Wilder settled in Kansas City, and, in addition to performing with his own ensembles, he performs with Angela Hagenbach, The Sons of Brasil, Dan Thomas Quintet, Jake Blanton Quartet, Westport Art Ensemble and Aurora Consort. In 2005, he began hosting his own jazz radio show on KKFI 90.1 FM from noon to 3 pm. every Monday. His CDs include Swing, Swing, Swing; New York Toast; and Why Not? He is currently an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
The fall Jazz Series continues on Tuesdays in the Recital Hall with:

• Oct. 24 The Hot Club of KC
• Oct. 31 Bill Crain Quartet
The 50-minute concerts feature Kansas City jazz artists. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. The concerts are cosponsored by the JCCC humanities and music departments, Community Services and the Music Performance Trust Fund of the American Federation of Musicians, Local 34-627.
