K.C. Symphony Violist Plays in Recital

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Violist Caroline Lee will perform at noon Monday, Oct. 9, in the Recital Hall of the Carlsen Center, Johnson County Community College, as part of the fall Ruel Joyce Recital Series, free classical music concerts featuring Kansas City artists. Mia Hynes is accompanist.
Korean-born Lee is a member of the Kansas City Symphony and Kansas City Chamber Orchestra. Prior to coming to Kansas City, she has played with the San Jose Symphony, New Century Chamber Orchestra and New Haven Symphony, as well as subbing regularly with the Chicago Symphony.
Lee received her bachelor's degree in music from the University of Michigan and her master's and artist's diploma from Yale School of Music. As a recitalist and chamber musician, she has performed throughout the United States and Canada with leading artists and ensembles
Hynes made her professional debut at age 12 with the Indianapolis Symphony. Hynes maintains an active solo and chamber music performance schedule. A member of the Central Missouri State University faculty since 1996, she has appeared on NPR’s “Performance Today” and plays frequently with the Kansas City Symphony.
Ruel Joyce Recitals will continue at noon Monday in the Recital Hall.

The series is named for Ruel Joyce, a longtime jazz bassist who headed the local musicians federation from 1977 until his death in 1989. The concerts are cosponsored by the JCCC humanities and music departments, Community Services and the Music Performance Trust Fund of the American Federation of Musicians, Local 34-627.
