JCCC receives funds for college’s first endowed chair
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – David and Mary Zamierowski, Overland Park, have pledged $750,000 for the first endowed chair in the history of Johnson County Community College. The gift will create and help fund the Zamierowski Family Endowed Professorship for Nursing and Medical Simulation.
The JCCC board of trustees will have the opportunity to approve the endowed chair at their regular meeting Nov. 16.
Kathy Carver, professor, Nursing, Overland Park, will be designated to fill the endowed position. She has taught nursing at JCCC for 24 years.
“I am honored to be recognized with this new title and humbled to have the Zamierowski family name associated with my teaching and nursing practice,” Carver said. “This gift and the honor of this position will be a hallmark for the nursing program and the college and a standard for all health care educational programs.”
“Through this endowed professorship, the Zamierowski family has provided an additional position for the nursing program that will focus on the theoretical concept and
effective use of simulation,” said Jeanne Walsh, assistant dean, Nursing, Olathe. “It will provide a vital link to this community’s quality of health care in the future.”
“The most important asset of the college is its teachers; what will make this program work is someone like Professor Carver,” Zamierowski said. “It is our family’s hope that by enhancing the teaching of the faculty and the learning of the students, this program of medical simulation will further improve the quality of our graduates and benefit the entire community.”
The vacancy created by Carver’s reassignment will be filled by an additional full-time regular nursing faculty appointment. Income from the endowment will be supplemented by the college to fill the position. JCCC will provide a monetary contribution for the balance of the salary and benefit costs resulting from the reassignment and replacement hiring.
