Johnson County 10th in Preseason Poll

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College women’s basketball program has been given the 10th spot in the NJCAA D-II Basketball Preseason Poll for the 2005-06 campaign.  It marks the seventh consecutive season JCCC has opened their season ranked nationally.  National runner-up Illinois Central College (28-6) is the top team in the country.

Last season, head coach Debbie Carrier led her team to a sixth straight Region VI title and an 18-14 record.   She returns five key players from that squad, including starting point guard Jodi Cochrane  of Lawrence, Kan., and  shooting guard Alicia Baxter of Bates City, Mo.  Also back are center Shannon Howard of Manhattan, Kan., Kari Garrison of Baldwin City, Kan., and Krissy Busboom of St. Louis, Mo.

Carrier also has added several talented newcomers this season including local standout guards Becca Boan of Blue Valley West and Jaclyn Smith of Blue Valley North.  Also joining the program this season are guard Megan Lotspeich of Archie, Mo, center Katy Davenport of Manhattan, Kan. and guard Kirby Beneventi of Lawrence, Kan.

JCCC will tip off its 2005-06 season on Nov. 8, when they host Hesston College.
