Egger Concludes Fall Ruel Joyce Series

Cynthia Egger OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Cynthia Egger, guitarist, will perform at noon Monday, Nov. 7, in the Recital Hall of the Carlsen Center, Johnson County Community College, as part of the free Ruel Joyce Recital Series featuring Kansas City classical musicians. Egger’s recital concludes the fall series.

Egger, a graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s Conservatory of Music, currently teaches at Rockhurst University and the Toon Shop. She has a diverse performance background, ranging from appearances with the Kansas City Guitar Society to playing in blues, country and Dixieland bands. Egger serves as guitarist and music director for St. Andrew Christian Church, Olathe. She has played with the Kansas City Symphony, Lyric Opera, City in Motion Dance Company and Starlight Theatre. Her playing can be heard on her solo CD, Finger Pickin’ Good. Egger was presented with the Andres Segovia Award by the Kansas City Guitar Society for her contributions to the cultural life of Kansas City through the support and promotion of the classical guitar. More about Egger’s life appears in a book about local Kansas City women called A Power of Her Own by Kathryn Sommer

The series is named for Ruel Joyce, a longtime jazz bassist who headed the local musicians federation from 1977 until his death in 1989. The concerts are cosponsored by the JCCC humanities and music departments, Community Services and the Music Performance Trust Fund of the American Federation of Musicians, Local 34-627.
