JCCC Parking Garage Receives Award
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College’s Parking Garage at Galileo’s Garden received the 2005 Design-Build Institute of America — Mid-America Chapter Design-Build award in the Best Project – Public Sector Building under $15 million category.
The Parking Garage at Galileo’s Garden is the first multi-level parking garage on campus as well as the first design-build project for the college. J.E. Dunn Construction, the design-build contractor, completed the parking garage in July 2004. The design-build team worked extensively with the JCCC facilities committee to ensure design details which included:
- campus design standard
- hardscape and landscape design
- safe lighting levels
- security surveillance
- integration of a large chilled water plant
- pedestrian bridge from garage to campus buildings
- planning to accommodate future art sculpture
“The garage not only serves its original purpose of adding 1,208 parking spaces but also complements and blends wonderfully with other campus facilities and themes,” said David Potter, director of Campus Services, JCCC.
The DBIA-MAC award was given to J.E. Dunn Construction in November and presented to JCCC as the customer at its December board meeting.
