JCCC Practical Nursing Program Receives Re-approval

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College/Area Vocational School Practical Nursing Program received re-approval for a period of five years at a meeting of the Kansas State Board of Nursing Dec. 14.

JCCC admits 32 students to its practical nursing daytime program and 40 students to its evening-and-weekend program, selected from more than 150 applicants. Students who successfully complete the 1,100 hours of classroom and clinical laboratory experiences are prepared to sit for the practical nurse licensing exam. JCCC practical nurse graduates are hired for employment in doctors’ offices, long-term healthcare, home care and acute care. Graduates can also bridge to JCCC’s registered nursing program.

JCCC’s practical nursing program is approved by the Kansas State Board of Nursing as well as the Kansas State Board of Education. Re-approval by the Board of Nursing included a self-study report and on-site visits by two representatives of the Board that included interviews with administrators, faculty, staff and students, the advisory committee and staff at clinical sites.

Students interested in enrolling in JCCC’s practical nursing program should call 913-469-8500, ext. 4722.
