JCCC Throws ‘Lifesaver’ Concert for Hurricane Victims

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – As part of its Project Lifesaver to benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina, Johnson County Community College will host a concert from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, in Yardley Hall of the Carlsen Center.

Eight bands will play for 45 minutes each, with 15-minute breaks in between for drawings of donated prizes including Dell electronics and gift certificates from local merchants. Participating bands will be:

  • Tom DeMasters & Duck Warner (jazz)
  • Toe (rock and roll)
  • Stoned Circus (rock)
  • Kansas City Bluegrass Revival
  • Big Woody featuring Eugene Smiley and James Gilbert (blues)
  • The Bobby Carson Band (blues and jazz)
  • Esencias Flamencas directed by Beau Bledsoe
  • Kansas City Boys Choir

Tickets are $5, available at the Carlsen Center box office, 913-469-4445. Donations, made payable to the American Red Cross, will be accepted at the door. Kansas City Power & Light will match donations dollar-for-dollar. For more information, call 913-469-3806.
